Happenings: Comic Con 2011

Steve talks about the origins of Rancho Obi-Wan’s “Rebel Command Table” which serves as our presentation centerpiece.

Lucasfilm premiered the first Blu-Ray release of the first six episodes of the Star Wars movies at San Diego Comic-Con in the summer of 2011. The company built an enclosed structure apart from, but close to, the giant Lucasfilm Pavilion. Members of the costuming group, the Rebel Legion, dressed in X-Wing Pilot and other costumes.

Inside the structure, which was dark and felt like it was cooled to near-freezing, there was a large high-tech and very high definition screen that played a special trailer for the DVD set focused on the end battle of A New Hope. It included unique animated footage in small on-screen boxes at the bottom of the frame. In the room was a four-fifths replica of the special holographic display table that was the centerpiece of Rebel Command in the film. Lucasfilm didn’t have any use for the table after Comic-Con, so it was offered to Rancho Obi-Wan, where it remains. Rancho is the only place to see the special trailer today, and it’s featured near the end of every tour.
