Alex used to work as a photographer for Industrial, Light & Magic. His skills became obvious when dealing with extremely reflective objects. C-3PO, anyone?
To photograph the Don Post life-size C-3PO, Alex almost completely enclosed the figure in 8 foot tall white foam core. There was only the smallest opening for the camera to peek through. With all lights in the museum turned off he constructed a boom for one overhead light box and another reflecting off the interior walls. He took several exposures of the body: lighter and darker. And with the overhead light turned off he took a photo of the glowing eyes. The photos could then be combined to create the perfect image. This set up took a few hours to get it right.
